If you are starting an email list from scratch, it may feel overwhelming. However there are a few tips that can start you on your way to building an effective marketing list along with a highly engaged audience.

It doesn’t matter if you begin by emailing just a few people. As long as you are offering them interesting and useful content, they will continue to engage and your list will naturally grow over time.

How to Build an Email List From Scratch

1. Create a CTA (call-to-action) on your blog, website or landing page.
This is a sign up form for you customer to ‘opt-in’ to your newsletter, blog or promotional offers

2. Create a pop-up or slide-in for each page of your site.
After a user spends a certain amount of time on your webpage, they can receive a pop-up relevant to the content on that page, or to their behaviour. An example could be an offer for 10% off a particular product they are looking at or a sign up to a newsletter for unique content they are reading.

3. Describe value in your CTA.
To maximise potential sign ups to your email list, tell the customer the value they will gain from signing up, such as discount offers or newsletter content.

Use words such as “exclusive” and “access” to really tempt your customer.

4. Advertise your email newsletter on your social media accounts
If you already have a following on social media, it is worthwhile letting your followers know about it! If they are engaging on your social media, it is likely they will also want to sign up to your newsletter.

Use Facebook ads to target an even wider audience and potential email sign-up.
